The best way to benefit from an organization is to get involved. There are many opportunities to be a part of GMSHRM. Join a committee of your choice and make a difference, meet other members of the HR community, enhance your professional development, and have fun. Here is a quick overview.
CERTIFICATION AND ACCREDITATION
Chairperson: Yussi Medina, PHR, SHRM-CP
Responsibilities: The Certification Committee is responsible for coordinating the SHRM certification study groups. Study groups are held twice per year, prior to the testing windows for the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certifications. Sessions are held once a week for 14 weeks. Volunteers are needed to facilitate the sessions. Facilitators must be current SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP HR Professionals and subject matter experts in the HR discipline they are covering.
SHRM recertification credits can be earned by SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certified individuals the first time they facilitate a particular session.

Chairperson: Erika Mand
Responsibilities: The College Relations Committee partners with the student chapters at universities in Miami-Dade County offering undergraduate and graduate programs with a concentration in Human Resources. The committee's focus includes increasing HR awareness and knowledge at the college level, as well as serving as a liaison between the student members and GMSHRM for networking and internship opportunities with local companies in the field of HR.
Responsibilities: The Communications Committee manages the information posted on the GMSHRM's website, launched in 2005, and published in GMSHRM's Weekly Update. The committee's goal is to expand the content and improve the content quality. One of the main functions is to liaison with other committees of the organization to ensure that the programs and benefits are being well published, well-funded and well attended. Committee liaisons are needed to interface with Membership, Programs, Marketing, and Special Events.
Chairperson: Ana Ribeiro, SPHR, GPHR
Responsibilities: The Community Relations Committee promotes and represents GMSHRM throughout Miami Dade County, partners with and supports local community organizations and recommends community service projects which GMSHRM supports. Members work closely with the Marketing Committee to act as liaisons with the local Chamber of Commerce, business organizations, business news writers and other community groups.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Responsibilities: The Diversity Committee focuses on diversity education, fostering employment opportunities and recognition of diversity and inclusion efforts. We seek Committee members who wish to connect with others interested in encouraging diversity and who will work on activities to encourage diversity, provide multi-cultural education, and recognize the efforts of companies who celebrate diversity and inclusion.
The SHRM Foundation has transformed itself into a values-based charity organization that champions workforce and workplace transformation and inspires HR professionals to make it happen. SHRM believes that empowered HR professionals can build inclusive organizations where all employees thrive, and organizations achieve success.
The new SHRM Foundation Mission champions workforce and workplace transformation by providing: research-based HR solutions for challenging inclusion issues facing employees and potential employees; scholarships to educate and develop HR professionals and students to make change happen; and, opportunities for HR professionals to make a difference in their local communities.
Responsibilities: The GMSHRM Foundation committee informs the Chapter of the existence, purpose, activities, and services of the SHRM Foundation, including the availability of existing research and the existence of SHRM Foundation scholarships to various SHRM events. To generate local donations for the SHRM Foundation, the GMSHRM Foundation committee holds fund-raising events such as raffles, drawings, and silent auctions.

Responsibilities: Global Forum is the branch of SHRM that groups the Human Resources Professionals who practice International HR and have Regional or Global responsibilities. Global Forum is held several times a year and offers speakers to discuss global staffing, compensation and employment laws as well as more globally-oriented HR topics. The committee coordinates and offers the workshops.
Chairperson: Christopher T. Perre
Responsibilities: Legislative Affairs educates membership on key legal issues and advocates appropriate action. The committee plans and coordinates the annual legal update, which helps to keep members apprised of changes in employment law, and the popular Supervisor Toolkit, which presents basic HR laws and administration to small business owners and other office staff who may have some HR responsibilities. Volunteers are needed to facilitate these programs.

Responsibilities: The mission of the Marketing Committee is to promote and support the Greater Miami SHRM Chapter, its programs and activities in the local, state and national SHRM community, through a comprehensive marketing campaign that strengthens the Chapter's brand, membership, and revenue in 2019. The committee will explore and execute new marketing strategies to increase awareness of GMSHRM's programs and initiatives in South Florida and develop new marketing tools to assist other GMSHRM Committees in reaching their goals.

Responsibilities: The Membership Committee recruits new members, promotes retention of current membership and oversees member relations. There are many opportunities on this committee including coordinating membership contests, calling members, staffing the membership table at the meetings and other community events. Our Ambassadors greet both guests and new members at the monthly meetings, present orientation to new members and assist members as needed.

Responsibilities: The Professional Development Committee coordinates monthly programs and workshops on timely subjects related to the Human Resources profession. Committee members benefit from the experience of working and connecting with other GMSHRM members, networking with various speakers and planning and coordinating workshops.

Responsibilities: The Sponsorship Committee obtains sponsors for all GMSHRM programming, and promotes website advertising, e-blasts, and other forms of financial support for GMSHRM activities.

Chairperson: Paula Franco
Responsibilities: The Workforce Readiness Committee facilitates and hosts workshops for GMSHRM members and non-members, HR Professionals in-transition and students interested in the human resources profession. In addition, the Committee works with veterans and reservists to facilitate their transition from the military to the private sector and with other groups. Volunteers are needed to participate in activities such as resume reviews, mock interviews, and networking practice.
